  New Zealand's alternative political party started in late December of 2010. Many people in New Zealand were unhappy with the direction that New Zealand as a country was heading in late 2010. The Heartland party is intending on developing into a party which will offer people an alternative choice to the current options available. With your contributions, ideas and support, together we can make a difference and create a more direct democracy for the people of this country. Our main ideology is liberal democratic. With regards to this ideology we also support the concept of a direct democracy that would have additional systems of referenda to give the electorate a possibility to overrule decisions of the elected legislature or even to make decisions by plebiscite without giving the legislature a say in that decision on some matters. It is our view that decisions made by plebiscite (referendum) should be more readily available, operate on a more regular basis and use a more cost effective model to the one that is currently being used in New Zealand today, such as an electronic referendum. This will give the people of New Zealand more opportunity to have their say on matters of national importance.
