“Capella Cracoviensis has aquired the aura of a vibrant new ensemble in which there is no hint of mere routine concert giving but only of exploration and delight at the discovery and re-discovery of living music.”
Jan Tomasz Adamus has worked extremely hard to raise the profile of the Capella Cracoviensis and I'm sure you will agree it has become a very fine ensemble.
Currently there is a movement lead by ex musicians of Capella Cracoviensis and backed by one journalist in particular (who in fact never attends any of the concerts). They would like to get rid of Jan Tomasz Adamus who was hired by the city some years ago with the directive of creating a period instrument ensemble in Krakow. If those in opposition to Adamus would succeed the orchestra would cease to exist in it's present form. Therefore there would not be a single period instrument orchestra in Krakow which would be a great loss to the city. They are putting more and more pressure on the President of Krakow who has not heard much from the people currently working with Capella Cracoviensis.
“he is an international-class artist with experience, taste and the ability to function in all the areas of top-level musical life: as a performer, conductor, administrator and artistic director.”
“the orchestra had become one that was equal to many of the international period bands and one that can be recognized throughout Europe as an important beacon of musical culture from Krakow. If the orchestra was to change back to become a standard chamber orchestra it would loose it's distinctive voice and become yet another average european chamber orchestra with traditional repertoire.”
“Jan Tomasz Adamus` appointment must be judged an inspired one and a proven success.”
