Our founder Anne (who is blind herself) discovered there was a long waiting list for a new German Shepherd once her old one had retired. She felt that a waiting time for mobility of up to 3 years was a very long time and decided to do something to help ease the situation.
Initially to make sure there was a demand for German Shepherds, Anne completed 4 different surveys of the blind community throughout the United Kingdom. These surveys came back as a resounding YES for more German Shepherds, as well as a resounding YES for indepth, controlled, residential centre training.
The logo uses the vinta (with the colors of the Philippine flag) which is also used to identify us as Filipinos. Vinta is a mode of transportation which could very well relate to us as tour guides. The sail also "guides" the boat to its destination. The vinta is above the Federation initial (TGFED – for easier recall) which is colored blue to signify the sea. Below the initials is a word in Alibata meaning "tagagabay" which can also be roughly translated as “tour guide”.
Alibata is an ancient writing system that was used in the Philippines. Although it was all but extinguished by Western colonization, variants of it are still used in parts of Mindoro and Palawan.
The American Dog Breeders Assoc. believes that strong enforcement of leash laws, as well as clear guidelines or identifying and managing dangerous dogs, will promote responsible dog ownership and prevent tragedies from occurring. Simply placing restrictions on certain breeds will not improve public safety - it will only punish responsible dog owners. We strongly support sound, enforceable, non-discriminatory legislation to govern dog ownership, and we appreciate legislators' desire to keep communities safe for both people and dogs. However, BSL will not address the root cause of dangerous dogs – Irresponsible Ownership!
