Chicagoland Bully Breed RescueChicagoland Bully Breed Rescue (CBBR) is a 501c3 not-for-profit-organization with a 17 year history of rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing so-called “bully breed” dogs—American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, American Bulldogs, and other bully mixes—that other shelter and rescue groups often pass over. It is our mission not only to rescue and rehabilitate abused, neglected and abandoned dogs, but to rehabilitate the reputation of the bully breeds, which has been tarnished by dog fighting and irresponsible ownership, and to improve the quality of life for these dogs and the people who care for and love them. We have made enormous strides in recent years in the rescue and re-homing component of our work. Through continuing fundraising efforts and the development of a network of more than 30 licensed and knowledgeable foster homes in the Greater Chicagoland Area, the CBBR “census” has risen from just a few dogs in rescue to an average of more than 50 dogs in our care at any moment. During FY 2010 CBBR successfully re-homed the highest number of “bully breed” in its history, all of whom would otherwise have found themselves just another number awaiting euthanasia at one of the overcrowded urban animal control facilities in our area. We are proud that CBBR accepts dogs based on need alone and does not turn away animals with disabilities, chronic or terminal illness, or other factors that lead some to consider a dog “unadoptable.” We work to provide every dog in our care with the veterinary care, training, and socialization to live its life to the fullest.31 supporters -
