The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust embraces measures for the protection and conservation of wildlife and habitats in Kenya. We are best known for our pioneering work in the rescue and hand-rearing of milk dependent orphan baby elephants and black rhinos, so that they can ultimately return to the wild when grown. We operate 7 mobile anti-poaching teams to remove snares, arrest poachers and work with local communities living in close proximity to wildlife. We have 2 mobile veterinary units, which alleviate animal suffering in the field. We work with communities, by supporting schools, undertaking wildlife field trips, listening to concerns and providing solutions to help reduce human/wildlife conflict - such as the erection of electric fencing in high risk areas. Let others know you care by wearing your DSWT badge. Thank you so much.

We are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week, to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. We perform hundreds of wildlife rescues each year. The shelter admits 100+ Koalas per year. We also take various other species into care & are specialists in burns treatment. Our current goal is to raise funds to purchase the land for our wildlife hospital. This has to be done solely through our own fundraising. For $40 per year you can choose one of our gorgeous Koalas in care to sponsor. You will receive a sponsorship pack including a certificate of sponsorship, a shelter newsletter, information profile about your Koala and a beautiful photo. Your sponsorship will assist to cover costs for the rehabilitation of the Koala. This can run into thousands of dollars. Donations over $2 are tax deductible. • Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre
We all deserve a second chance - especially the most vulnerable in our society – our animals. Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is doing exactly that. It is a non-profit organization, dedicated to the quality care, rehabilitation and release of orphaned, confiscated and injured wildlife. Most of our orphaned, abandoned, injured or displaced animals (indigenous birds, mammals and reptiles) end up either at veterinary facilities or zoos. Wildlife rehabilitation centres fall between these two areas and cater specially for injured or orphaned indigenous wildlife species. One of the functions of this rehabilitation centre is to successfully treat or hand rear the animal and return it to its natural habitat as soon as possible. For this to be possible, we have a very close relationship with the Nature Conservation Department of our province, to ensure that releases take place in carefully chosen areas including reserves and conservancies, but wherever possible, animals are returned to their original location. No animal in rehabilitation is on display to the public as this may cause capture myopathy and undue stress. In order to successfully treat and release these animals they need to have as little human contact as possible. Wildlife rehabilitation is an expensive but very necessary field. We are solely dependent of the public and industry to see that this centre remains sustainable. The philosophy of Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation centre is to rehabilitate animals as quickly and effectively as possible in order to reintroduce them to nature, where they belong. Hence excessive contact with humans is undesirable and restricted to caring for and teaching them the simple behavioural traits that will equip the animals to survive in the wild. People are welcome to drop off patients at the premises but donors and sponsors will only be accommodated on a case by case basis.
