Philip Cortez for State RepresentativeIn 2007, Philip was elected to the San Antonio City Council; and re-elected in 2009 with an average of 75% of the vote. As a councilman, he focused on the development of District 4 and the city. Philip fought to efficiently meet the needs for high quality infrastructure and improve the police and fire departments, parks and libraries. He has looked for ways to partner with our local school districts to improve the high school and college graduation rates. He was appointed by Mayor Julian Castro to serve as Chairman of the Audit, Infrastructure and Growth Committees, President of the San Antonio Housing Trust Public Facility Corporation, and to be a member of the Governance Committee. In October 2008, Philip was selected to become a member of The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials. In January, 2010, he also joined the Southwest General Hospital Board of Trustees. He continues to serve our community as a guest reader at Frank Madla and Kindred Elementary schools. He is a lector and parishioner at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
